What is the difference between an insurer hiring defense counsel and a policyholder hiring their own attorney?
When an insurer provides defense counsel, that attorney represents the insured’s interests in the underlying claim. When a conflict exists between the insurer’s interests and the insured’s interests, the insured may have the right to independent counsel. We advise on both situations.
